Indian River Colony Club Foundation Donates $5,000 to Patriot Service Dogs.

The Indian River Colony Club Foundation, representing the veterans community in Viera, Florida, has awarded a $5,000 grant to Patriot Service Dogs, a nonprofit organization based in Ocala that trains and matches service dogs with veterans facing various challenges, including PTSD. The grant marks the foundation's first outreach to Patriot Service Dogs and aligns with the community's motto of "Service to Those Who Served."

Patriot Service Dogs invests up to $20,000 and approximately two years in raising and training each service dog before pairing them with a qualifying veteran. Victoria Sanderson, the volunteer coordinator and lead trainer for Patriot Service Dogs, expressed her gratitude for the grant and the support of the Indian River Colony Club Foundation, stating, "This grant will make a significant impact on our ability to continue supporting our veteran/service dog teams."

Jack DeFreytas, a retired Marine and Indian River Colony Club resident, received his service dog, Bailey, just two months ago and has already experienced the profound impact of their partnership. "Bailey is not my dog. I am honored and privileged to be his Marine," DeFreytas shared. "The world would be a better place if more people had a buddy like Bailey."

The Indian River Colony Club Foundation's Board Vice Chairman, retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Mike Feener, emphasized the importance of the work being done by Patriot Service Dogs, drawing from his own experiences as a combat veteran and former dog owner.

The Indian River Colony Club community, known as "The Place Patriots Call Home," is dedicated to supporting veterans causes and has been recognized with the Outstanding Military Service Award by Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey for their ongoing efforts on behalf of U.S. military veterans.

The Indian River Colony Club Foundation, under the leadership of retired U.S. Navy Commander Timothy Higgins and retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel Mike Feener, aims to provide grants for educational, medical, emergency, and other charitable purposes to employees, residents, and organizations that assist current or former members of the U.S. Uniformed Services.
