Goodwill of North Georgia Receives $300,000 Grant from Coca-Cola Foundation to Empower Women in Non-Traditional Careers.
Goodwill of North Georgia has been awarded a $300,000 grant from the Coca-Cola Foundation to support workforce training programs for women seeking to enter non-traditional occupations. These occupations, which include construction trades, maintenance technician, logistics, and IT, typically have fewer than 20% women in the field.
The grant will ensure that Goodwill of North Georgia can continue to offer these training programs at no cost to jobseekers. Since 2020, the organization has seen an 84% increase in enrollment for women in non-traditional occupations and anticipates a 10% year-over-year increase in women pursuing these careers for the next five years.
Keith Parker, president and CEO of Goodwill of North Georgia, emphasized the importance of these programs in fulfilling the organization's mission to put people to work. In the previous year, Goodwill of North Georgia helped connect more than 8,600 women with living wage jobs.
To help female participants navigate new work cultures, Goodwill of North Georgia's career services case managers provide additional support specific to women. This support includes physical conditioning training, training on gender roles and professional advocacy, and an overview of sexual harassment and anti-discrimination laws and employee rights.
Over the past five years, Goodwill of North Georgia has provided services to more than 206,000 jobseekers in the region, offering 17 career programs at no cost, including the newest program, Electrical Vehicle Supply and Equipment. The grant from the Coca-Cola Foundation will enable Goodwill of North Georgia to expand their training programs and provide more women with the opportunity to achieve their dreams and build better futures for themselves and their families
