Citizens Bank Offers $10K Grants to Support Minority, Women, and Veteran-Owned Small Businesses
Citizens Bank has announced its annual Small Business Community Champion Award contest, offering $300,000 in grants to support small businesses owned by minorities, women, and veterans. The contest aims to recognize and support small businesses that positively impact their communities.
The bank will award $10,000 each to 30 small businesses that are either Citizens business banking account holders or based in selected states. The grants will be distributed among 10 minority-owned businesses, including Black-owned, 10 women-owned businesses, and, for the first time this year, five veteran-owned and other qualifying companies. The deadline for applications is 5 p.m. ET on February 1, 2024.
Citizens' small-business program, now in its seventh year, is part of the bank's ongoing commitment to strengthening local economies and communities. To date, the bank has awarded over $1.2 million, helping 112 small businesses expand their operations and boost community growth.
Access to capital remains a significant challenge for small business owners, particularly those from underrepresented groups. A recent report revealed that 76% of Black entrepreneurs faced difficulties in securing funding, with about 80% of those who have never earned money for their business stating they could not find proper support or pay for services connecting them to capital.
To apply for the grant, small business owners must explain how they would use the funds to strengthen and sustain their business while supporting their community's growth and evolving needs.
