Beyoncé, through her new haircare line Cécred and charity BeyGOOD, has announced a $500,000 annual grant to support cosmetology schools and salons in five U.S. cities. The chosen locations – Atlanta, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, and New Jersey – were selected for their diverse hair stylist communities.
The grant aims to foster talent, professionalism, and entrepreneurship within the hair industry, recognizing the significant impact hairstylists have on their clients. Half of the funds will be allocated to cosmetology schools offering inclusive curriculums, providing scholarships for students. The remaining $250,000 will be distributed as 25 $10,000 grants to qualifying salon business owners in the selected cities.
Beyoncé, who worked in her mother Tina Knowles' hair salon during her youth, credits her experiences there for shaping her into the person she is today. The salon served as her foundation, inspiring her bold experimentation with hair and driving her to explore new techniques and styles.
