26 Native American-Owned Businesses in Montana Awarded $320,000 in Indian Equity Fund Grants.
The Montana Department of Commerce has announced that 26 start-up or expanding Native American-owned businesses in Montana will receive a total of $320,000 in grant funding through the Indian Equity Fund (IEF) Small Business Grant Program. The grants, which can be up to $14,000 per business with a minimum dollar-for-dollar cash or in-kind match, can be used for various activities such as purchasing new equipment or developing new product lines.
The grant recipients come from the eight federally recognized tribes in Montana, including Blackfeet, Chippewa Cree, Confederated Salish & Kootenai, Crow, Fort Belknap, Fort Peck, Little Shell, and Northern Cheyenne.
Some of the businesses receiving grants include:
1. Paula's All Occasion Gifts in Browning, which will add a new line of affordable inventory.2. True Grit Tire and Automotive in Billings, which will purchase equipment to increase capacity.3. K's Barbershop in Box Elder, which will purchase a small building structure to convert into a barbershop.4. The Ronan Mill in Ronan, which will purchase commercial kitchen equipment to expand and offer coffee and espresso drinks.5. Dragon Well Acupuncture and H.O.P.E. in Floweree, which will purchase equipment and technology to increase business capacity.
Eligible applicants for IEF grant funding include enrolled members of the eight federally recognized tribes in Montana. The IEF is one of four financial assistance programs under Commerce's Office of Indian Country Economic Development, which also includes Native American Business Advisors, Tribal Tourism, and Native American Collateral Support grant programs. A total of $320,000 in IEF program funding is available each year to support Native American businesses in Montana.
